Cookie Monster Cake

My husband just might be the human cookie monster, for his love of anything sweet but especially homemade chocolate chip cookies.  So when this commercial came out, he laughed, watched and then said “I love cookie monster”.   This commercial is adorable but it is totally my hubby when waiting for the cookie—IMPATIENT! So for his love of Cookie Monster, love of chocolate chip cookie, love of cake, love of sweets: this cake is just for him.

Sweet with Kayla- Week 2

So I did it!  I continued on to week 2 of the SWEAT with Kayla workouts.  Here is what I learned from Week 1: keep moving through the workouts even if you modify from being tired push through, have a water bottle by you, keep moving(did I say that).

What I like: 1.  3 days of strength training, 2. the strength training workouts push you 3. uses body weight to get perfection (squats, lunges) 4.  I still get to run everyday

Here is my 7 day week 2 workout Kayla Itsines, #BBG, #BBGcommunity, IF I did anything extra it is in RED.

Week 2:

  • Monday-LEGS- 2 miles

  • Tuesday-LSS- 5 miles

  • Wednesday-ARMS- 4 miles

  • Thursday-LSS- 4 miles

  • Friday-FULL BODY- 4 miles

  • Saturday-LSS- our town celebration has a small 5k, this year my kids participated so it was a walk/run for me.

  • Sunday-REST: 10 mile bike ride

 Happy Strength Training:)

Strength training and running= Kayla Itsines?

I will not sugar coat it, strength training is not my favorite, it does not give me the same rush as running does BUT I have always known it is important.  I am a little in denial that I am getting older and things I could do or did do needs to shift a little.  So this brings to strength training.  To keep my bones and muscles in tip-top shape I need to take care of them and use them, so  I have been strength training more seriously since February.

February – May: I completed the FREE 6 week mini series workouts from the awesome blogger and workout mom Brianna Christine, BIKINI BODY MOMMY.  She is real, funny and very encouraging.  Her workouts are taped in full including a warm up and cool down, excellent to keep you motivated even when you want to quit.

May: I needed a change and get a hold of my eating.  I believe I found this on PINTEREST and thought I would give it a try.  So I completed two rounds(not religiously though) of trainer Lindsey Mathews, 15 Day Fit Body Challenge.  Lindsey’s workouts are also taped in full.  I liked the set up of working out several different muscle groups in one workout.  I felt her workouts challenged me more and I was getting stronger.

May 30-June 6th:  #BBG is all over INSTAGRAM, Kayla Itsines is all over INSTAGRAM.  So while finishing up my 15 day challenge workouts, I did research in to who is Kayla Itsines?  Women’s Health magazine has a simple article about her, the workouts and the eating plan.  So why not give it a try, for 7 days.

Here is my 7 day workout Kayla Itsines, #BBG, #BBGcommunity, IF I did anything extra it is in RED.

I a wrote a separate post about the heathy eating plan…so stay tuned as I finish that up.

BBG Training Week 1

  • May 30th- LEGS:  I HATE STRENGTH TRAINING LEGS!!!  Do you hear me, I HATE STRENGTH TRAINING LEGS!  But I do it!  I hate it so much because I am sore afterwards which affects my running.  I did body weight and ONLY completed 2 circuits, Legs were burning after 2.  They are still sore from my last weeks leg work outs. + 3 mile run..ya see I love to run:)

  • May 31st- LSS: 4.6 mile run with 8 minute recovery walk- total time 46 minutes.

  • June 1st- ARMS and ABS; great work out, definitely tired during and after, LOVED the AB workouts.+  a 3.2 mile run

  • June 2nd- LSS: 5 mile run with 5 minute recovery walk= total minutes 48 minutes

  • June 3rd- Full Body Workout, great workout but still only did body weight when weights for legs were needed, my abs were still sore from Tuesday workout! + a 3.2 mile run

  • June 4th-LSS- NOTHING, I typically have a longer run on Sunday so I waited.  So today was more or less my recovery or rest day.

  • June 5th-Recovery- LSS:RUN- 6 miles. 52 minutes

I enjoyed the workouts a lot except for the legs, but maybe if I stick with it I will learn to like them.  All of the workouts were challenging but doable.  I was sweaty and out of breath sometimes, but determined to finish.  I knew I pushed myself during the workouts because I felt it later in the day and the next day.  I am definitely thinking about purchasing the plan, if I do I will post about it.

Ham and Cheese Sliders

Ohh look at the melted cheese, and toasted bun!! These sandwiches are a family favorite!  The swiss cheese, salty ham and a wonderful mustard/mayo sauce makes these a go-to lunch or supper anytime of the year.

Ham is something we always have an abundance of in our freezer.  Our hockey association has a ham fundraiser every fall, one ham is about 15-17 lbs. spiral cut and pre-cooked for $45.00.  I typically buy two, one to freeze and save for Easter, the other I will cut up and refreeze in gallon ziploc bags.

The recipe is below but here is picture by picture of the steps starting with step 2 in the directions.  Really there is no way to screw this up, just pile on the good and bake!

Girl on a mission-Barn wood picture frame

My youngest son has a birthday twin with an awesome young lady, April 15th.  The two are 6 years apart BUT the best of buddies. Their friendship has grown over the last 4 years because their older brothers are friends and have played varsity baseball togethers since they were freshmen.   The two look for each other at each and every game, and it is not the same if she is not able to be there.  Kaitibug (nickname from her parents), is a tomboy with a sweet, caring, outgoing personality.   Their friendship is unique and warms my heart.  She is an amazing young lady and could ask for a better role model for my son.

So since baseball season is a busy time of year, we have made their birthday special by celebrating at a game with each other and then sharing treats with the team.  Over the last four years they have bought something for each other, typically with a baseball theme.  I was struggling this year on what to get her.  Until she did something amazing, she played guitar and sang a self written song to her 6th grade bandmates.  I was fortunate enough to watch her do this and was blown away.  To tears actually, and I do not cry easy.  Afterward I snapped a few pictures of her, lying to her that they were for her mom.  So when I came across a GIRL ON A MISSION, I knew what I needed to do with the pictures.

Here they are opening each others gifts, at they best place in town…THE BASEBALL FIELD!

So how did I make this awesome gift, see my earlier post grandchildren sign.

Steps to creating Painted wood sign.

  1. Type and print out quote on Computer, choose a fun font

  2. Tape printed out quote to the carbon paper,

  3. Tape both carbon paper and printed quote to the wood

  4. Trace the lettering, press hard enough for the lettering to show up on the wood.

  5.  Paint lettering with color of choice, let dry

Just run: Part 1

Screen Shot 2016-05-28 at 7.14.23 PM

Wow, its been over two months since my last post, 4 months since my last running post and 7 months post Mankato marathon. My time has been wonderfully consumed by my son graduating, sports, work, kitchen/bathroom updating and family.  But that doesn’t mean I have stopped, I just keep running, with no plan really.  I still need my stress relief.

Living in southwest Minnesota, you need to run with the elements: rain, snow, sleet, wind or humidity.  I embrace it all, that doesn’t mean I run outside in the elements every day but I take the challenge on because what can I do about.  I can’t make it any better, but running makes me better.

So today I ran in the rain.  It was forecasted to rain all morning, but I could not wait until evening as we had a baseball game to cheer on to victory.  So out I go 59 degrees, minimal wind and rain.  My run began with sprinkles of rain and by the end it was a down pour and I ENJOYED every minute of my 4 mile victory.

Just Run part 1

So I am back in the game of blogging again, I have missed it.
